An Abstract Domain to Infer Types over Zones in Spreadsheets

Spreadsheet languages are very commonly used, by large user bases, yet they are error prone. However, many semantic issues and errors could be avoided by enforcing a stricter type discipline. As declaring and specifying type information would represent a prohibitive amount of work for users, we propose an abstract interpretation based static analysis for spreadsheet programs that infers type co...

The Constraint Database Approach to Software Verification

Based on constraint database techniques, we present a new approach to software verification. This new approach has some similarity to abstract interpretation that uses various widening operators; therefore, we call the new approach l-u widening. We show that our l-u widening leads to a more precise over-approximation of the invariants in a program than comparable previously proposed widening op...

Localizing Widening and Narrowing

We show two strategies which may be easily applied to standard abstract interpretation-based static analyzers. They consist in 1) restricting the scope of widening, and 2) intertwining the computation of ascending and descending chains. Using these optimizations it is possible to improve the precision of the analysis, without any change to the abstract domains.

Stratified Static Analysis Based on Variable Dependencies

In static analysis by abstract interpretation, one often uses widening operators in order to enforce convergence within finite time to an inductive invariant. Certain widening operators, including the classical one over finite polyhedra, exhibit an unintuitive behavior: analyzing the program over a subset of its variables may lead a more precise result than analyzing the original program! In th...

Influence of tributary widening on morphology and hydraulic variability in confluence zones

In the aim of assessing the potential of tributary widening with respect to river rehabilitation in fluvial systems, attention is focused on the effects of tributary widening on the morphodynamic processes of confluence zones. Systematic tests were performed in a confluence flume where the confluent channels are connected with an angle of 90° and the main channel is 0.50 m wide. Three different...
